This will be the fourth year of 104.7 The Drop’s Block Party! The goal of the free summer concert is to connect the community to music, arts, and urban alternative culture. It serves as a kick-off to summer and encourages people to get outside and reconnect with each other. 104.7 The Drop will soon announce an opening act lineup of local artists. By giving local artists a platform, 104.7 The Drop hopes to raise awareness around Denver’s R&B and hip-hop scene and inspire the next generation of creatives and innovators.

Academy Award, Emmy and Grammy-winning artist, actor, author, and activist, Common continues to break down barriers with a multitude of critically acclaimed roles, and continued success in all aspects of his career. He has dedicated countless hours and has been deeply engaged in social justice and advocacy work around mass incarceration, mental health and voting. He launched the nonprofit Imagine Justice, and through his Common Ground Foundation, Common is dedicated to empowering high school students from underserved communities to become future leaders.

BATTLE FOR THE BLOCK

104.7 The Drop is asking listeners to help guide the local artist lineup at the Block Party. The Drop invited local artists to submit auditions online, then selected finalists to contend for the top spot in a freestyle competition, or cypher, called Battle for the Block, filmed at the Buell Public Media Center. Finalists included Ave Grim, Kayla Marque, Nelo, Monica The Great, and Mike’s Paradize. Voting takes place on social media! So, follow us on Facebook and Instagram @thedrop303.
