ScHoolboy Q is poised to come back into the spotlight with an upcoming 6th studio album after a long hiatus. Blue Lips is set to release March 1st, 2024 through the legendary label Top Dog Entertainment (TDE).

On Tuesday, he shared the album track list through social media with a teaser video (available on YouTube) and dropped two singles available for only 24 hours: “Back n Love Feat. Devin Malik” and “Blueslides”. Notably, only “Blueslides” is listed on the track list for the album. Both songs have accompanying visuals.

“Back n Love” shows that he hasn’t lost his Groovy Q attitude and swagger and features home camcorder footage of Q as a kid growing up in South Central Los Angeles. The single “Blueslides” has a somber jazz piano sample on the beat and makes nods to his extended absence in the rap game, as well as how he battled with depression. It also alludes to his late friend Mac Miller, speaking to how Mac’s sudden overdose rocked him emotionally and motivated him to keep pushing forward. In one lyric he even notes: “I lost a homeboy to drugs man, I ain’t tryna go backwards”.

Fans anticipated that he would be dropping a project in the new year, as last September he made a guest appearance on decorated TDE producer Kal Banx’s Boiler Room DJ Set, which featured a handful of TDE artists, and took the mic to say, “Watch how I’m comin’ this year.” He followed up by previewing some unreleased music for the sold-out crowd in LA.

ScHoolboy Q’s last release was the single “Soccer Dad” in 2022, following his last album release titled CrasH Talk in 2019. While “CrasH Talk” had a more commercial feel to it, many are expecting Blue Lips to leave it all out on the table with a variety of moods, from introspective rhymes to stank-face inducing bangers. The announcement of Blue Lips seemingly came out of nowhere, but it is apparent that TDE’s veteran member has been cooking up something special: and a pleasant surprise for rap fans everywhere now looking forward to the March 1st release.
