Southern Delight in the Mile-High City

BBQ - Saucy Southern

Finding good food in Denver is not always the easiest for those who are southern transplants or in search of comfort food. Thankfully, there is a food truck for everyone searching for the perfect BBQ! Saucy Sothern’s offers a charcoal styled BBQ that everyone in the Mile-High City can enjoy!

The brand was created in 2018 by Ki’erre Dawkins and Khristian Matthews. Two cousins out of Mississippi with a dream to do things differently. Their dream began when they met on the campus of Mississippi State University and realized that they were cousins. Following graduation, Khristian moved to Denver to explore working in the cannabis industry and encouraged Ki’erre to follow his move to the Mile-High City.

Shortly after the move, the two started a food truck outside of Diego Pellicer Premium Marijuana. Two years later, their business is thriving and they have been able to serve thousands across the city! They have even expanded to catering weddings, parties, and other special events.

This weekend the two are expanded their business to the marijuana industry with their new THC based BBQ sauce! Their sauce comes in two flavors and can be found inside of Diego Pellicer Premium Marijuana. Ki’erre and Khristian feel that it is important to show people that there are legal ways to work in the cannabis industry while exploring your passions, especially as Black men.

Their advice to other entrepreneurs that want to start a business or enter the cannabis industry is to be consistent and to strive for perfection. Often Black entrepreneurs are held to higher standards by their customers, health inspectors, and licensures. Dawkins and Matthews suggest that entrepreneurs be ready for these challenges and stay prepared.

Their ambition and hard work have led the cousins to have one of the most successful new businesses in Denver. Their food truck was one of the first restaurants to sell out after mass demand during Black Restaurant Week. No worries, for their diners! The two will be opening a restaurant at a new location very soon! Make sure to check out their new restaurant and grab their new BBQ sauce from Diego Pellicer Premium Marijuana!
