Indigo Jones had the pleasure of speaking with the beautiful and multitalented Reneé Elise Goldsberry. Reneé is a Tony and Grammy award-winning actress, singer, and songwriter. Goldsberry is well-known for her iconic role as Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway musical Hamilton, which is a cultural phenomenon that is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Additionally, she is well-known for her role as Wickie Roy in the comedy series Girls5eva, and recently starred in a documentary called Satisfied, which highlights Goldsberry balancing motherhood and major, personal challenges while also preparing for her popular role as Angelica Schyler in Hamilton.

In this episode, we discussed Goldsberry’s new debut album Who I Really Am, which reflects who Reneé Elise Goldsberry is “beyond her biography,” as she mentioned in our discussion.  Her new album explores  her personal experiences with love, joy, vulnerability, and navigating creative independence and self-discovery. It highlights Goldsberry not just as the talented, multihyphenate that she is externally to the world, but also who she is internally—as a mother, wife, and as a human being navigating the world just like anybody else. Her radiant and soulful vocals combined with her powerful lyrics is what makes this album high-spirited, relatable, and light-hearted. She also discussed a lot of the challenges she faces in the entertainment industry as a Black woman, and how she continues to overcome those challenges while simultaneously protecting her peace. Reneé is beyond her profession. She is a strong-willed woman that uses her talents and gifts to fulfill her purpose and still move in love, grace, and poise.
Her debut album Who I Really Am is out NOW on streaming platforms!
